Determining the truth today has become a tricky endeavor. How often do we hear the phrases “my truth” or “your truth” today? By the very definition of the word, there can only be one truth. Something is either fact or it’s not. It’s either true or it’s false.
Yet today, riots are called peaceful protests; peaceful protests are called insurrections. Communism, Socialism and Fascism are advertised as good things and pushed by organizations claiming to be “anti-fascist.” Bills in Congress that will cause inflation to increase are titled “Inflation Reduction Acts,” and words get redefined to match the narrative being pushed.
On the NBC series Dragnet, Sergeant Joe Friday would often say, “Just the facts, ma’am”, because that’s all he needed to determine the truth. There was a time when the media could be trusted to report “just the facts,” but, sadly, those days have passed. Trusted sources for news have become as hard to find as an establishment Republican who voted against a spending bill, and most of us simply do not have time to research and verify the accuracy of everything we read in the news.
The Bible says in John 8:32, “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” This verse has many implications, but notice the correlation between truth and freedom. Freedom is the byproduct of truth.
Our Founding Fathers agreed on the importance of truth as well. In the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson went so far as to say that some truths are, “self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, LIBERTY and the pursuit of Happiness.” Do you see it? Truth results in Liberty/Freedom.
If we ever want the Liberties and Freedoms intended by the founding documents of our Republic, we must start by knowing and learning the real truths that exist in our society, in our governments and in our institutions.
This is what led Mississippi Freedom Caucus member Rep. Steve Hopkins and I to start a new podcast series called “THE TRUTH” with the goal of conveying to the public the unfiltered, unbridled, unaltered truth about various aspects of our state and local governments.
These podcasts are in addition to The Mississippi Freedom Caucus’ podcast, The Freedom Corner. Our goal with both podcasts is to supply documented information to people concerning taxes, government spending, proposed legislation, election processes, etc. in a way that is simple and easy to understand.
We encourage you to watch these episodes and share them with your friends and neighbors.
We hope that by sharing these truths, people will become more knowledgeable about how their government works, what their government is doing, and how their elected officials are voting.
